In light of the growth and interest in Buddhism and meditation in the United States, and as an extension of Grand Master Wei Chueh’s Chung Tai Chan Monastery in Taiwan, Chung Tai Chan Monastery USA (CTCMUSA) was established in February of 2004. Supported by Chung Tai in Taiwan and local Buddhist communities, CTCMUSA has acquired a property of 500 acres in Shepherd, Texas and plan to develop an international meditation retreat center for local, as well as international practitioners, to have a serene environment to study Chan (Zen), meditation, Buddhist teachings, and the altruistic practice of Bodhisattvas.
Presently CTCMUSA, in collaboration with Chung Tai Zen Center of Houston, offers regular Buddhist services, public Buddhist lectures, Chan (Zen) Buddhism classes, meditation retreats, and special Buddhist ceremonies, including Three Refuges ceremony and repentance ceremony. All the religious activities are open to the public and are conducted in English and Chinese by Buddhist ordained monks. The congregation of the Monastery continues to grow, and thrives to promote the understanding of Buddhism and the Chan teachings in the United States. |
